Crate & Barrel: Spring 2014
CMDG is glad to announce that we are a featured designer in Crate & Barrel’s Spring 2014 Collection. The newest line of kitchenware is made up of stainless steel utensils and measuring sets designed by Carter McGuyer exclusively for Crate & Barrel.
Contemporary edge combined with classic function is a defining element of this collection. The utensils are finished with a fingerprint-resistant matte combined with classic polished stainless steel heads. The measuring sets stay true to the timeless classics while offering broad, flat handles with holes for hanging and easy storage.
Like all products designed by CMDG, you can trust that they are designed with you, the user, in mind. We never forsake function for beauty, but instead insist they be one in the same.

Our Mission, Simply Stated
When we started our design firm in 2006, we jumped in head first. We put in long hours to grow our portfolio and develop relationships. We did what all entrepreneurs do; we poured ourselves into our work, our passion.
Year after year, business grew and opportunities arose. In those formative years, we didn’t put pen to paper to define where we wanted to go because we were already moving in that direction.
Over the last several years, we’ve experienced another growth spurt. This growth has led us to consider where CMDG will be in the future – five, ten years from now. So [eight years later], we’ve finally decided to post a company mission.

We’ve been giving our work 110% all these years and are proud of the Carter McGuyer Design Group name – we’ve just made a point to write down why this time.

2014 International Home + Housewares Show
For as long as we can remember, our design firm has been attending the International Home + Housewares Show, IHHS. Recently, IHHS was coined as being to the appliance industry what Fashion Week is to the fashion industry [epicurious]. And because we enjoy fashion almost as much as design, we can get behind that notion.
Each year, we arrive anxious to launch new products, see old friends, and explore up-and-coming designs in the world of housewares. What can be better [and more CMDG-esque] than mixing meetings with friendly reunions and business with a little pleasure?
Needless to say, the hustle and bustle of the show never disappoints, and the 2014 show proved no different.
While there wasn’t a second to spare in Chicago, we’re back in the studio ready to share an update on our time in the Windy City. We’ve compiled an array of images to flaunt our new products and give you a peek into our time at the show.

Meet Your Makers
It’s almost that time again. Spring, when event and festival announcements start filling the air. Everyone is abuzz with talk of which shows can’t be missed and what dates to blackout for that much needed vacation time. It’s no different here at CMDG.
One event we already have marked on our calendars is Southern Makers. This annual, one-day spectacle takes place in Montgomery, Alabama and prides itself on bringing together “highly curated, handpicked top talent – artists, chefs, breweries, craftsmen, and designers – to one central place.” These makers create the best-of-the-best in the their field, and Southern Makers delivers them all to your fingertips. This year, attendees will find a market for shopping, demonstrations and tastings, along with conversations and workshops. Lovers of all things Southern, this is one event you don’t want to miss.

Southern Living: Most Stylish Southerners
In our line of work, it’s one thing to be noticed for our taste in design, but it’s another to be highlighted for our fashion sense. In a curated best-dressed list from Southern Living, Carter was chosen as one of the 75 Most Stylish Southerners.
Being that we at CMDG appreciate all things design related, we are overjoyed to see Carter appear alongside some of the top tastemakers in the South [and beyond]. Take a look through the slideshow to see several familiar, Shoals area faces like fashion designers Billy Reid and Natalie Chanin, and local cheesemaker Tasia Malakasis.

Southern fashion has evolved over the years and seems to have risen above cultural stereotypes to create a distinctive style of its own. Words like timeless classics, quality craftsmanship, individualism, comfort and versatility come to mind when thinking of style in our region.
Carter’s affinity for shoes and bold patterned pocket squares have become a signature in his day-to-day style. What are some of your favorite clothing pieces and how are you contributing to the new face of Southern style?
